You Have Your Mount, Now It's Time To Check The Fit
You finally got your Voltra Mount mounted on the rack. It looks great, it feels solid… but is it really fitting as well as it could?
Many users find that their mount performs even better with a few small adjustments. That’s where the shim kit comes in.
While your Voltra Mount will work fine right out of the box for most racks, the included shim kit gives you the ability to fine-tune the fit for your specific setup. Whether you’re chasing a tighter, more secure feel or just want to eliminate any small amount of play, taking a few minutes to check the fit can make a noticeable difference in stability and overall experience.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly how to use the shim kit — including how to determine the right shim thickness, how to install them properly, and a few extra tips to get the best results from your mount.
What’s Included in the Shim Kit
- Two sets of side shims: 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm, and 1.0 mm thick
- Two sets of base shims: 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm, and 1.0 mm thick
- 2.5 mm Allen wrench
- Replacement screws (typically includes one 10 mm and one 12 mm M4 screw)
Step 1: Determine the Correct Shim Thickness
- Place your Voltra Mount onto the power rack without any shims first. Use the mag pin you normally use, as different pin diameters can affect the fit.
- Slide a shim between the chafe pad (the black plastic piece that touches the rack) and the rack upright for a trial fit. No tools are needed for this step.
- Start with the thickest shim (1.0 mm). If it fits and feels snug and you like the fit, this is the correct thickness to install.
- If it’s too tight or won’t fit properly, try the 0.5 mm shim, then the 0.25 mm if needed.
- Repeat this process for both the side chafe pads and the base chafe pads, as the required thickness can differ between locations.
Stacking Shims
You can stack multiple shims if you need more thickness than 1.0 mm provides. For example, stacking all three side shims gives you up to 1.75 mm per side (1.0 + 0.5 + 0.25 mm), for a total of 3.5 mm of adjustability across both sides.
The shims install directly behind the chafe pads and are held in place by the screws that secure the chafe pads to the mount.
Step 2: Install the Shims

Chafe Pad Mounting Area
- Side chafe pads are secured with three (3) 4 mm countersunk Allen screws each.
- Base chafe pads are secured with two (2) 4 mm countersunk Allen screws each.
- Use the 2.5 mm Allen wrench included with your shim kit.
Installation Steps
- Carefully remove the Allen screws from the chafe pad(s) you are adjusting.
- Place the selected shim(s) — stacked if needed — behind the chafe pad.
- Reinstall the screws, making sure not to cross-thread them. Replacement screws are included in the kit if needed.
After installation, test-fit the mount back onto your rack to confirm the improvement.
While the mount is off the rack, check the DIY Dock screws for tightness. The DIY Dock is secured with eight M4 screws. Beyond Power recommends a torque value of 2.0 – 2.5 Nm (17.7–22.1 in-lb). Check the Beyond Power website periodically for any updates.
Important Notes
- Adjustments are not required for the mount to function, but they often improve fit and performance.
- Different manufacturers’ mag pins can change the fit due to variations in pin diameter.
- When tightening the chafe pad screws, use only light tension — finger tight is sufficient. Do not overtighten.
