Plate Doubler Installation Instructions

For the Beyond Power Travel Platform

Thank you for choosing VoltraMounts. These instructions provide a clear, professional procedure for installing the Plate Doubler accessory. Following these steps ensures proper fit, even clamping force, and long-term reliability of your equipment.

Required Tools & Hardware

Tool / Item Description / Notes
Non-marring prying tool Plastic pry tool recommended to protect wood and plastic surfaces
2.5 mm hex key (Allen wrench) Supplied with VoltraMounts hardware kit
Torque wrench (recommended) Capable of accurate 35 in-lb measurement for best results
M4 countersunk set screws (x8) Supplied by VoltraMounts — right-hand thread
Stainless steel backing plate Original component — retained and reinstalled

Critical Installation Specifications

Final Torque Value: 35 in-lb (inch-pounds) per screw

Screw Type: M4 countersunk head set screws (right-hand thread — loosen counterclockwise)

Torque Method: Three progressive passes + optional verification pass using an even criss-cross or circular pattern

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Over-torquing may compress or crack the wooden platform. Always follow the progressive torque sequence. Never exceed 35 in-lb. The stainless steel backing plate must be oriented with countersunk holes facing outward so screw heads seat flush.

Step-by-Step Installation Procedure

Step 1 — Prepare the Travel Platform

Place the Travel Platform on a clean, flat, protected work surface with the mounting face down (the side that normally receives the DIY Dock and Magnetic Pad should be facing the table). This gives you access to the stainless steel backer plate and retaining screws.

Step 2 — Remove the Protective Rubber Pad (if present)

Using your prying tool, gently lift one edge of the protective rubber pad. Pull slowly and evenly to detach it completely. Set it aside in a safe location for reinstallation later.

Step 3 — Remove the Eight Retaining Screws

Using the supplied 2.5 mm Allen wrench, remove all eight (8) set screws from the stainless steel backer plate.

Important: These are right-hand thread screws. Loosen by turning counterclockwise. The screws pass through the backer plate, wood platform, and thread into the DIY Dock on the opposite side.

Once the last screw is removed, the DIY Dock is completely free. Carefully lift it off the front side of the platform and set it aside for later reinstallation.

Step 4 — Remove the Magnetic Pad from the Mounting Face

Flip the Travel Platform so the mounting face is now facing up.

The Magnetic Pad is attached via adhesive. Starting at one edge, insert your prying tool and gently pry upward while applying steady inward/pushing force to separate the adhesive bond. Work progressively around the entire perimeter and across the pad until it is fully removed.

Note: The Magnetic Pad is made of pliable plastic with magnets on the reverse side. Minor flexing or bending during removal is normal and acceptable — it will not affect performance. Set the pad aside for reinstallation.

Step 5 — Clean Adhesive Residue (Recommended)

Remove any remaining adhesive from the platform surface using isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth, or a mild adhesive remover. Ensure the surface is completely clean and dry before proceeding. This step ensures the best possible fit and allows for optional re-adhesion of the Magnetic Pad later.

Step 6 — Position the Plate Doubler

With the mounting face up, align the Plate Doubler by VoltraMounts with the existing holes in the Travel Platform. Place the DIY Dock on top of the Plate Doubler, ensuring all holes align perfectly through the entire stack.

Step 7 — Reinstall the Stainless Steel Backing Plate

Flip the assembly (or work from the backside) so the backer plate area is accessible. Reposition the original stainless steel backing plate over the holes.

Critical Orientation Check: Ensure the backing plate is installed with the countersunk side facing outward (away from the wood). This allows the M4 screw heads to sit flush or recessed properly.

Step 8 — Loosely Install All Eight Screws

Using the VoltraMounts-supplied M4 countersunk set screws, loosely thread all eight screws through the backing plate, wood platform, Plate Doubler, and into the DIY Dock. Hand-tighten only until the components are lightly held together and alignment is maintained. Do not fully tighten yet.

Step 9 — Verify Alignment Before Final Tightening

With the screws still loose, carefully lift the Travel Platform and inspect the assembly from multiple angles. Confirm that the Plate Doubler and DIY Dock are centered, flush, and properly aligned with no overhang, gaps, or binding. Make any final adjustments while the screws remain loose. This step is essential for a professional result.

Step 10 — Final Tightening: Progressive Torque Sequence (Critical)

This is the most important step for safety, performance, and equipment longevity.

Recommended Pattern: Use a consistent criss-cross or sequential circular pattern (e.g., positions 1-5-2-6-3-7-4-8) to distribute force evenly across all eight screws.

Pass Target Torque Action
Pass 1 ~30% (~10–11 in-lb) Snug all screws evenly until components make firm, uniform contact.
Pass 2 ~60% (~21 in-lb) Increase torque progressively following the same even pattern.
Pass 3 (Final) 100% — 35 in-lb Tighten every screw to the full specified torque value.
Verification (Optional) 35 in-lb One final sequential pass (1→2→3→…→8) to confirm nothing has relaxed.
⚠️ Never exceed 35 in-lb. Over-torquing risks damaging the wooden platform or stripping threads.

Step 11 — Reinstall the Magnetic Pad

Return the platform to mounting-face-up orientation. Center the Magnetic Pad exactly as it was originally positioned inside the DIY Dock. The built-in magnets will hold the pad securely in place even if the original adhesive has been fully removed.

Optional: For permanent security, apply a thin layer of flexible adhesive, contact cement, or high-quality double-sided mounting tape to the back of the pad before seating it. This is entirely at the user’s discretion.

Step 12 — Final Inspection

Perform a complete visual and functional check:

  • All eight screws are tightened to 35 in-lb and none have backed off.
  • The Plate Doubler and DIY Dock are flush, centered, and square to the platform with no gaps or overhang.
  • The Magnetic Pad is properly seated and held by magnets (or adhesive if applied).
  • The assembly moves freely without binding (if applicable to your setup).
✅ Installation Complete! Your VoltraMounts Plate Doubler is now properly installed and ready for use.

Maintenance Recommendations

  • Re-check screw torque after the first few uses and periodically thereafter, especially if the platform is transported frequently or subjected to heavy dynamic loads.
  • Keep the Magnetic Pad and mounting surfaces clean to maintain optimal magnet hold and appearance.
  • Inspect the Plate Doubler and surrounding components regularly for any signs of wear or loosening.
