DIY Dock Installation Instructions

Attaching a Beyond Power DIY Dock to compatible Voltra Mounts products — for customers who already have a dock with a mount, or need install guidance

Thank you for choosing Voltra Mounts. These instructions provide a clear, professional procedure for bolting a Beyond Power DIY Dock onto a compatible Voltra Mounts product that supports the Include / Don’t Include DIY Dock option (or onto a Voltra Mounts doubling plate that accepts a DIY Dock). Following these steps ensures flat mating, correct fastener torque, and a secure interface for your Voltra I.

Who this guide is for: Customers who received a DIY Dock with a Voltra Mounts order, are installing a dock they already own onto a compatible Voltra Mounts dock interface, or need torque and alignment guidance for that bolt-on path.
Two torque paths — keep them distinct:
  • DIY Dock screws (Beyond Power) — the dock’s own M4 fasteners that thread into the DIY Dock: 2.0–2.5 Nm (17.7–22.1 in-lb). Do not exceed 2.5 Nm.
  • Voltra Mounts doubling plate M4 — 32 in-lb (3.6 Nm). Used on doubling plate paths such as Dual Voltra Plate.

Required Tools & Hardware

Tool / Item Description / Notes
Compatible Voltra Mounts product A Voltra Mounts mount or doubling plate with a DIY Dock mounting face / hole pattern (for example, mounts that offer Include / Don’t Include DIY Dock, Dual Voltra Plate dock lobes, or other published dock-compatible interfaces)
Beyond Power DIY Dock One dock per Voltra I position. Included only when the DIY Dock option was selected on your order, or supplied separately for fulfillment
DIY Dock fasteners Typically eight M4 screws that secure the DIY Dock (Beyond Power / dock-supplied path). Use the hardware that matches your dock and mount kit
Torque wrench or torque screwdriver (recommended) Capable of accurate readings across the Beyond Power DIY Dock range (~2.0–2.5 Nm / 17.7–22.1 in-lb). If you are also installing a Voltra Mounts doubling plate with M4 assemblies, the tool should also cover 32 in-lb (3.6 Nm)
Hex keys / Allen wrenches Sized for the DIY Dock M4 screws (and any Voltra kit fasteners supplied with your plate or mount). Exact hex sizes vary by fastener head — use the size that fits your hardware without rounding
Clean cloth Wipe mating faces before assembly
Soft / protected work surface Protects powder coat and dock finish
⚠️ IMPORTANT — Product scope: This guide covers installing a DIY Dock on a compatible Voltra Mounts interface. It does not include a Voltra I or rack hardware. If your mount listing’s DIY Dock option was set to Don’t Include, a dock is not in the carton unless arranged separately through support / fulfillment.

Critical Installation Specifications

Dock role: The DIY Dock is the bolt-on interface your Voltra I seats onto. On Voltra Mounts products, it attaches to the mount’s (or plate’s) DIY Dock mounting face.

Typical fastener count (dock screws): The DIY Dock is secured with eight M4 screws.

Torque method: Hand-start all fasteners, verify flat mating and alignment, then tighten in progressive passes (even / criss-cross or star pattern). Do not jump straight to final torque.

Fastener Final Torque Where it applies
DIY Dock screws (Beyond Power) 2.0–2.5 Nm
(17.7–22.1 in-lb)
DIY Dock’s own M4 screws threading into the dock — Beyond Power’s published recommended torque on the DIY Dock product page / Installation Reminder. Do not exceed 2.5 Nm (22.1 in-lb)
Voltra Mounts doubling plate M4 32 in-lb (3.6 Nm) Only when a Voltra Mounts doubling plate uses those M4 assemblies for dock-to-plate clamping (for example, Dual Voltra Plate path). Distinct from Beyond Power DIY Dock screw torque — never mix the two limits
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Never exceed Beyond Power’s 2.5 Nm (22.1 in-lb) on DIY Dock screws. Over-torquing can damage dock threads or distort the stack. Under-torquing can allow movement under load. Always confirm the DIY Dock (and any intermediate plate) sits flat against the mount with no rock or gap before final torque.
Doubling plate installs: If you are installing a DIY Dock as part of a Dual Voltra Plate, Doubler Plate, or similar Voltra Mounts doubling-plate procedure, complete that plate’s own Help article first (plate-to-mount fasteners and flat-mating checks), then return here for dock seating torque — or follow the dock steps already published in that plate guide.

Step-by-Step Installation Procedure

Step 1 — Confirm Compatibility and Lay Out Hardware

Confirm your Voltra Mounts product has a DIY Dock mounting face / hole pattern (Include / Don’t Include dock option on the mount, Dual Voltra Plate dock lobe, or another published dock-compatible interface). Lay out:

  • The mount or doubling plate
  • The DIY Dock
  • The matching fasteners (typically eight M4 DIY Dock screws for the dock path; plus any Voltra Mounts doubling plate hardware if you are on a doubling plate path)

Step 2 — Prepare a Protected Work Surface

Place the mount or plate on a soft, protected work surface so powder coat and dock finish are not scratched. Keep fasteners grouped so DIY Dock screws are not mixed with unrelated kit hardware.

Step 3 — Clean Mating Surfaces

Wipe the mount’s (or plate’s) DIY Dock mounting face and the DIY Dock mating face with a clean cloth. Remove chips, grit, chalk, packaging residue, or adhesive remnants so the dock can seat flat.

Step 4 — Position the DIY Dock (Flat Mating Check)

Place the DIY Dock onto the mount or plate so every fastener hole lines up cleanly with the dock interface. The dock should sit centered and square on the mounting face.

Alignment check: Confirm the DIY Dock sits flat against the mount (or plate) with no rock or gap before installing fasteners.

⚠️ STOP — Flat mating required: The DIY Dock (and any intermediate plate in the stack) must sit flat against the mount with no wobble, rock, or gap. If there is any movement or the surfaces are not mating flat, do not install fasteners yet. Investigate and resolve the fit first (debris, coating buildup, misalignment, wrong plate orientation, or damaged parts). Never complete the install if the surfaces are not mating flat.

Step 5 — Hand-Start All Fasteners

Using the DIY Dock screw path:

  • Hand-start every screw 2–3 turns so threads engage freely.
  • Do not force a binding screw. Back it out, inspect and clean the threads, replace any suspect fastener, and realign.
  • Hand-snug only until the dock is lightly clamped and alignment is maintained. Do not final-torque yet.
Hand-start first: Do not use a driver to final-torque until every fastener threads freely by hand and flat mating is confirmed.

Step 6 — Verify Alignment, Then Apply Progressive Torque

With fasteners still only snug, re-check that the DIY Dock is flush, centered, and free of gaps or binding.

Then tighten in an even criss-cross or star pattern in progressive passes to Beyond Power’s recommended range:

Stage Target Action
Stage 1 Snug / finger-tight Bring all DIY Dock screws to light contact in an even pattern
Stage 2 ~50% of final Increase evenly in the same pattern
Stage 3 (Final) 2.0–2.5 Nm (17.7–22.1 in-lb) Final torque in the same pattern, then one verification pass. Do not exceed 2.5 Nm

Step 7 — Doubler Plate Path Only (If Applicable)

Note: Fiber lock nuts apply only when installing a Dual Voltra Plate onto a Rogue mount (plate-to-mount). They are not used for DIY Dock screws or other doubling plate dock hardware.

If your install uses a Voltra Mounts doubling plate whose M4 assemblies clamp the dock to the plate after the plate is mounted:

  • Follow that plate’s Help article for plate-to-mount fasteners and any version-specific hardware (for example, Dual Voltra Plate V1 / V2).
  • Tighten those Voltra Mounts doubling plate M4 fasteners in an even pattern to 32 in-lb (3.6 Nm) — do not exceed.
  • Do not apply 32 in-lb to Beyond Power DIY Dock screws. Keep the two torque values separate.

Step 8 — Seat the Voltra I

Install your Voltra I onto the prepared DIY Dock using the dock’s normal seating / retention method. Confirm the unit is fully seated and retained before loading the setup.

Step 9 — Final Inspection

  • DIY Dock sits flat on the mount or plate with no rock or gap.
  • All DIY Dock screws you tightened are within Beyond Power’s 2.0–2.5 Nm (17.7–22.1 in-lb) and have not backed off.
  • If a Voltra Mounts doubling plate M4 path was used, those fasteners are at 32 in-lb (3.6 Nm) with locking features fully engaged.
  • Fastener threads engaged cleanly; no binding, cross-threading, or incomplete engagement.
  • Voltra I is properly seated on the DIY Dock.
✅ Installation Complete! Your DIY Dock is installed on the Voltra Mounts interface and ready for your Voltra I.

Maintenance Recommendations

  • Re-check torque on DIY Dock screws (2.0–2.5 Nm / 17.7–22.1 in-lb, Beyond Power) — and, if used, Voltra Mounts doubling plate M4 fasteners (32 in-lb / 3.6 Nm) — after the first few training sessions, then about every 90 days (or sooner if you train hard / under heavy dynamic loads).
  • Keep DIY Dock and mount / plate mating surfaces clean. Wipe away chalk, sweat, and grit that can affect flat seating.
  • About every 90 days, inspect the DIY Dock, mount or doubling plate, and fasteners for wear, coating damage at contact points, or fastener loosening.
  • If you remove and reinstall DIY Dock screws, inspect dock threads again, replace any fastener that looks suspect, and re-torque using the progressive sequence — never jump straight to final torque.

Need Help?

If something does not sit flat, a fastener will not torque cleanly, or you are unsure which torque path applies to your kit, stop and contact Voltra Mounts before loading the setup.
